Free
Free: your own car, watched from your phone
For one person's own vehicles. See your car on the map, get warned when it moves, and let someone at home watch it with you. No payment, and no time limit.
Free
Prices are in Kenya shillings, for each asset each month. A second tracker on the same asset, as a backup, costs nothing extra.
Who it is for
Free is for you. The usual start is your own car: you want to know where it is parked, that it is safe overnight, and that it arrives where it should. It works just as well for the family car, for a motorbike, or for a vehicle that belongs to a family member who has agreed to be tracked.
It is not for a business. If the vehicles earn money for a business, or you need more than 3, a paid plan is the right one, and Lite is the cheapest. Free is also a good way to try Fleetrift: sign up on your phone, add the tracker you already have, and see it on the map the same day.
What you get
Free gives you the parts of the platform that a person needs for their own vehicles. Here is each, and why it matters.
A live map, on your phone and in the browser
This is the reason most people start. You open the app and see where the vehicle is now, moving or parked, without calling anyone. The same map works on a laptop at home.
7 days of history, with alarms
If something happened this week, you can look back at where the vehicle went and which alarms it raised. A week is enough to answer the usual question: was it moved while I was away?
Every alert, free in the app, without a limit
Alerts are what make a tracker useful when you are not looking at the map. In the app they cost nothing and never run out.
Up to 3 share links to the map
A share link shows one vehicle on a map to someone who has no account. Send it to a relative who is waiting for you, or to a mechanic who is coming to collect the car.
Up to 5 places, such as home and work
A place is a spot you name on the map. Once home and work are places, you can be told when the vehicle arrives or leaves them, which is more useful than a pin on a map.
2 people on the account
You can invite one other person, so a partner or a parent can see the vehicle too, with their own sign-in.
10 SMS alerts a month, and email
For the alerts that matter most when you have no data, a few text messages a month are included. Email is included too.
How it works day to day
Day to day, you hardly think about it. The tracker is fitted, and the app shows the car's position on the map. When you park at work, the car sits where you left it. If it moves while you are inside, the app tells you.
You use places to say what normal is. Once home and work are places, you can be told when the car arrives at either, so a note that it has reached home is a quiet way to know a family member got back safely. If a relative asks where you are, you send a share link, and they watch the car move on their own phone without signing up.
When something goes wrong, history helps. If the car was not where you left it, open the last 7 days and replay where it went. Alerts reach you in the app and by email without limit. For SMS, you have 10 a month, and an alert that is over that amount still appears in the app.
An example
Picture someone with two cars
Imagine a woman who drives to work in her own car, and whose husband uses a second family car for the school run. She fits a tracker to each and signs up on her phone. That is 2 assets, well inside the 3 that Free allows, and the cost is nothing.
She names three places: home, her office and the school. The app tells her when her husband's car reaches the school, and when her own car has left the office car park. One evening she sees on the map that the family car has not moved from a shopping centre for three hours, and a phone call finds that her husband had gone to a meeting. The next time, she sends him a share link before he leaves, so she can watch the drive and he does not have to answer a call.
What it costs
Free costs nothing, and it stays free. There is no trial that ends and no card to enter. The limits are the ones above: up to 3 trackers, 7 days of history, 10 SMS alerts a month, 3 share links, 5 places and 2 people on the account.
Hardware is separate. If you already own a tracker, you pay nothing for it here. If you need a new one, you can ask us.
When to move up or down
Moving up
Move up when you have more than 3 trackers, or when the vehicles are for a business, since Free is for your own vehicles. Lite is the cheapest paid plan, at KES 250 per asset a month, and it takes any kind of asset. Track, at KES 600, adds longer history and replay, reports and a share link for the map.
Add-ons that suit it
Free can take two paid extras. The rest of the add-ons are for the paid plans.
- If 10 SMS alerts a month is not enough, you can buy more. Bought SMS last 12 months. They are for when you are away from data and an alert cannot wait.
- If 7 days is too short, longer history lets you see further back, for one tracker or for all.
